It is that time again, the monthly book review and I have a good one for you!
I read the book Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and it was such an amazing book! I am still just blown away by it.
This was one of the books that I was just scrolling through my library app and stumbled upon. I did have to wait for a bit for it, but it was so worth it.
So what drew me to this book? Well the cover has this elegant lady in a fancy wine coloured dress. Like look at the cover it is stunningly beautiful. Secondly the name, like who would not be intrigued by a book called Mexican Gothic? It made me wonder what it was all about. I will admit I did not read the synopsis on this one. I 100% borrowed this book based on the cover and the name.
I may have judge this book by its cover but it did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this book if you could not tell yet.
There were thrills and suspense. In the beginning I will admit, I thought this book was going to be a bust because it never lead me to believe that there was going to be climax. Was I wrong. Silvia Moreno-Garcia is an excellent storyteller and writer. If there was a chef’s kiss emoji I would put it here.
Here is a little bit about the book.
Noemí Taboada has been asked by her father to go and visit her cousin who had sent a very concerning letter. Once Noemí arrives at the house where her cousin lives with her husband’s family she feels like something is off. There is something that she can’t figure out but all too soon she will.
Usually I can figure out how the book will end or what is going on but with this one I didn’t. I had my guesses but I was very wrong.
I will say there is attempted rape in this book so if that is something that may affect you maybe stay clear of this book.
There is so much that I loved about this book. There is the suspense of what is really going on, there is a very small love story. Ugg it was just a great book. I really look forward to reading more of Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s books.
So if you cannot tell this book gets 5 stars, it is just that great.
Next week I will be posting a roundup of my foto february challenge! So look out for that!
Until next time,
